Malarone (Anti-Malarial)

Further Information

Malarone is taken daily. Start 1 to 2 days before entering a malaria-risk area, continue throughout your stay, and keep taking it for 7 days after leaving to ensure full protection.

Helps protect against malaria, a serious mosquito-borne infection common in many tropical and subtropical regions.

Side effects: May include nausea, stomach upset, headache, or mild dizziness. These effects are usually short lived.

Additional precautions: Alongside medication, preventing mosquito bites is essential. Use repellents, wear long sleeves, and sleep under mosquito nets in high-risk areas.

Before your appointment: Take Malarone with food or a milky drink to improve absorption and reduce stomach discomfort. Inform the clinician of any existing health conditions or medications.

Risks caused by malaria: Can cause high fever, chills, severe fatigue, and in severe cases, organ failure. Without prevention, malaria can be life-threatening.
