Doxycycline (Anti-Malarial)

Further Information

Doxycycline must be taken daily, starting 1 to 2 days before entering a malaria-risk area, continued throughout your stay, and for 28 days after leaving to ensure full protection.

Helps protect against malaria, a serious mosquito-borne infection found in many tropical and subtropical regions.

Side effects: May include nausea, stomach discomfort, sensitivity to sunlight, or mild headaches. These effects are usually temporary.

Additional precautions: Alongside medication, preventing mosquito bites is essential. Use repellents, sleep under mosquito nets, and wear long sleeves in high-risk areas.

Before your appointment: Avoid taking the medication on an empty stomach to reduce nausea. Inform the clinician if you have allergies, are pregnant, or take any regular medicines.

Risks caused by malaria: Can lead to high fever, chills, severe fatigue, organ complications, and can be life-threatening without prevention or treatment.
