Given as a single dose. It should be administered at least 2 weeks before travelling to ensure protection.

Protects against chikungunya, a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes in parts of Africa, Asia, and the Americas.

Side effects: May include mild arm soreness, headache, tiredness, or a slight fever. These usually settle quickly.

Additional precautions: Even with vaccination, preventing mosquito bites is important. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, and stay in well-screened or air-conditioned accommodation.

Before your appointment: No special preparation is required. Inform the clinician of any allergies, medical conditions, or previous reactions to vaccines.

Risks caused by chikungunya: Can cause high fever, severe joint pain, muscle aches, and fatigue. Some people experience long-lasting joint discomfort after infection.
