Dengue Fever

Further Information

The dengue vaccine is given as a series of doses. It’s important to complete the full course at least one week before travelling abroad to ensure adequate protection.

Protects against dengue fever, a mosquito-borne viral infection common in tropical and subtropical regions.

Side effects: Temporary effects may include fever, tiredness, headache, or mild injection-site discomfort.

Additional precautions: Alongside vaccination, preventing mosquito bites is essential in high-risk areas. Use repellents, wear long sleeves, and stay in well-screened or air-conditioned accommodation.

Before your appointment: No special preparation is required, but inform the clinician of any recent vaccines or medical conditions.

Risks caused by dengue: Can lead to high fever, severe body aches, rash, and in rare cases, complications such as dengue haemorrhagic fever or dengue shock syndrome.
